Joy Decision

This mix explores the tension between joy and melancholy, beauty and darkness, and dreams and nightmares. Our existential path is not so easily reduced and polarized, but given a choice, I pick dreams of beauty and joy.

I’m a fan of and draw inspiration from science fiction, especially the classics. In Carl Segan’s seminal novel, Contact, he writes about first contact with an extra terrestrial species. During this encounter, ET describes humanity: “You’re an interesting species. An interesting mix. You’re capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you’re not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we’ve found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.”
